This cable will allow anyone with an EV with a Blue Commando AKA CEE (16A) male charging connector fitted (eg Reva G-Wiz, Allied Peugeot Bipper or Renault Berlingo Electrique) to charge at a public/private, Type 2 (Mennekes) EVSE charging facility.
Any Type 2 EVSE will work with the adaptor including the ChargeMaster (Polar/British Gas) units, PodPoint, ElektroBay etc. It will also work with with a so-called “Granny cable” AKA “Mode 2” charging cable ie a cable with a CEE plug on one end, a brick in the middle and a J1772 (Type 1) or Type 2 (female) plug on the other end.
This adaptor will handle up to a maximum of 16A (depending on type). However, ultimately, the maximum power will be dictated by your EV's on-board charger.
It would also work to charge an e-bike from a Type 2 EVSE (assuming you have the e-bike charger with you and it is fitted with a CEE mains plug).
Whilst charging, the Type 2 plug is normally locked into the EVSE but the mains plug is not, nor is the adaptor's mains socket waterproof so it should be secured somewhere safe (to prevent unauthorized disconnection) and dry when in use.
Your choice of alternative socket can be requested at potentially extra cost including a 32A CEE (blue commando) one.
Generally, you should not use the manual release switch with EVSEs as it can ‘confuse’ them. Most EVSEs that use a smartphone app will unlock the plug in the normal course of charging i.e. either when the EV has finished charging or when you command the EVSE to stop charging via the smartphone app. However, some recently installed EVSEs (notably Sainsbury’s ones installed around the beginning of 2017), have an app but cannot be controlled by it. In this case, the manual release switch should be used to switch off the EVSE and release the Type 2 plug.
Twizy Users:- The standard UK Twizy plug has a rather large 13A mains plug strain relief moulding which interferes with the proper closing of the MasterPlug version (only) socket lid. You can remove 2 segments of the strain relief (as shown here...) using either a craft knife or snippers which will allow the lid to close easily. The standard Twizy plug will fit the Standard socket without modification.
Standard cable length between plug and socket is 3m in tuff, very flexible, 2.5mm2, H07-RNF (rubber) cable rated at 32A continuous - note again, though, that the actual maximum charging currents will be dependent on the mains supply and/or the EV charger i.e. up to ~16A.
If you want a longer or shorter cable please ask. 8m is the maximum, 0.3m the minimum (specified length is the actual cable length ie that between plugs).
Cable weights are shown on the purchase button drop-down.
Free Royal Mail or ParcelForce postage is included which usually takes 2-3 days within mainland UK (excluding weekends).
